Witte engine info
I am working on a US Oilwell Witte E-20RC Engine like this one I need some information such as rotation CCW or CW, Carb make and model, and how many teeth on the starter motor pinion.
Lots of them for sale on the net, but not so much information. This was the last of the Witte design after Oilwell bought them, and before Arrow bought Oilwell. |

Someone suggested slowing down the video, and it sure looks like CCW, if so....the Magneto is the wrong one for the engine. The impulse coupling clicks and spark occurs when you rotate clockwise.

Remember that a video is just a series of stills. I wouldn’t trust slowing it down.

Manuals available here.

Generally if you stand at the crankshaft end of the engine, the top of the flywheel comes toward you. Or if the cylinder is on your left and the crankshaft is on your right, turn the crankshaft clockwise.

I was pondering your question and figured start turning the flywheel. Whichever direction starts the intake valve opening first is correct rotation.

Here it is. Not sure if how much it will help you.
