New EDC knife

EDC means Every Day Carry for those not familiar with the term.

I have been carrying a small fixed blade for a couple years now and have gotten to prefer it over a folding knife. I made the knife and the sheath and have it set up to carry horizontally just to the left of the my belt buckle. Its pretty out of the way unless you need to lay on your stomach and for the most part even when I'm working under a truck I'm on my side or my back. Its much more comfortable than having a large folding knife in your pocket when you are sitting on a horse.

The original knife was just a straight steel handle with no scales, and I love how slim it is but sometimes in the winter its a little hard to grip with cold hands. Also the sheath set up doesn't work out very well once I start adding layers in the winter. So this is MKII :)

This knife is forged out of a leaf spring off a jeep. I apologize for not taking progress pics. The handle is made with natural linen micarta, which looks a little like osage orange but is a plastic and much more durable than wood. Did a little vine pattern filework on the spine, but I should have tightened the pattern up its a little rough.

For the winter issue and having too many layers to be able to get to the knife, I made this sheath modular so that I can put either the horizontal belt loop on it, or a steel clip. The clip lets me carry it hooked to a pocket on my jeans or carharts or however I want to carry it on an outer layer.

Sheath is made with 9oz leather, hand stitched with a double needle saddle stitch, and basket weave stamped. I am starting to think I should have dyed it darker so it draws less attention, but I never had anyone bother me about the old knife and it will darken pretty quick with age.

Thank You Matt, between your post and a Ghost from the past on Facebook. I'm going to break out my leather tools. I gave away a leather project to a little girl that lived on the other side of our duplex around 1975-76 best guesstimate. Her Granddaughter is still playing with it.

Very nice work, Matt.
How did you make the letters on the underside of the knife handle?

if I wore a knive like that, here in NYS, I’d soon be talking to the police.

I like it. And the sheath looks incredible.
