Here's a little Red Car I built for my kids, I't runs off of 12V starter gererator. The kids love it just like i did when i was a kid my dad built one for me his was built out of 1/2 plywood, the new updated on is all steel, and will do some damage to what evere it hits.... lol

ps the last pic was the one my dad built

I think the coolest part is that you still have the picture of yourself with the original, Derek.
Very nice & welcome to SFT. :)

could you please post pics of the starter hooked to the driveline

Great job there Derek. Unless I miss my guess, the original that your Dad built is Popular Mechanic's "Sidewalk Classic" from a 1960's issue. Am I right? Anyway, making one out of metal with such a faithful reproduction, is a pretty nifty feat.

Yes so true, I dont have the original mag, but had copies of it that my dad had made. Should last for a long time. Mine lasted for several years, and I hope this one will be around when im sitting in my rocker... lol

Thanks for the comments

The cars at my parents house right now, so pics are out for now but will get some sometime. As for the the starter to the driveline its prety simple, i made a pully for the starter, and theres a pully about 10" bolted to the drive wheel, the rear wheels are independent of each other There on the same shaft but have bearings in them. Only the passenger side drives. Let me know if you need any more info.

Those kids look like they are having fun!! Is the little one telling the driver - "go faster"? :)

Thanks for posting and nice job on the car.

AWESOME. I bet your dad is/would be proud of it. I'd say it already has the kids approval.

Hey, I found a link to the plans for the sidewalk classic. Vintage farm plans Click on Kids Page on the left, next choose M.I. Side Walk Clasic Car. The reason I didn't link up straight to the car is because there seems to be a lot of good stuff on this site.

Here is the direct link for the unadventurous. Side Walk Classic

If that little one is a boy I would be thinking of how to do a dump box for the back!
