Can anyone add info on how a thread can be cleaned up on a mill or a lathe? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmxAtmtXMec |

It looks similiar to one in the Enco catalog Part # 319-9765. The one in the Enco catalog is for a turrent tailstock but it may be available seperately.

There are a lot of plans on the web. I used some of them and added some things. There is one tapered adapter that fits the tail stock and the rest are attachments and a handle. I use back gear and power thread unless using a pipe tap using the socket adapter or smaller threads.

Vern, do us all a favor & limit yourself to one new thread per topic, please.

You should learn to cut threads on the lathe. It is very rewarding. Otherwise you can thread with a die and an electric drill.

Quote:
Both internal & external threads are easily cut. If you want to keep the tooling cost low, look at the internal/external threading tool from Mesa Tool.

Vern, type mrpete222 into the search box on Youtube. This guy has about 140 videos and one of them is on threading in the lathe. It's pretty good. He's a retired school shop teacher. Also, get a copy of South Bend's "How To Run A lathe" book. It's very informative. You can get it on ebay or from Lindsay Technical Books.
Even if you cheat and finish a thread that you started on the lathe with a die, you'll at least be assured that it's straight. Dave

Cutter,
My New thread would never post! I'd logoff, then come back into Shop Floor Talk and the thread would not be there. So I'd try to add the topic again. Then I thought I was using "Thread" as the first word in the title and the forum software would not allow that word to be first. I was trying to figure our why I could not add a new toppic. So this morning I see a single toppic with multiple posts. Okay I was doing something wrong, but I did not mean to have multiple posts like that. Maybe a brain f a r t.

You had 5 threads, Vern. Not 5 posts. I merged them all into one.
![]() If you want to clean it up, just leave the top one & delete the duplicates. I have no idea why you weren't seeing them unless maybe you were backing up to look at the machining forum page & not refreshing it.
